Women protest against bank

Various Stree Shakthi group members staged a protest against the failure of Srimangala Union Bank in providing loan for the members on Tuesday.

Zilla panchayat member Shareen Subbaiah, gram panchayat president Mallige, and others took bank manager Krishnamurthy to task. They said the members had repaid a sum of Rs 450 lakh in the past. However, the bank was not dispensing new loans.

Gram panchayat member Ajjamada Jaya also spoke. Bank manager Krishnamurthy promised to look into the issue within two days.

Raitha sangha meet

Ammathinadu Raitha Sangha has organised a convention to urge the government to solve the problems faced by farmers, at Ammathi Kodava Samaja on May 29.

Addressing a press meet at Madikeri recently, sangha president K U Ganapathy said the farmers should be able to fix price for the produce grown by them. The Central government should reduce the price of fertilisers. The middlemen are engaged in cheating the farmers in the name of supplying labourers, he alleged.
