One of the City’s oldest book shops, Sapna Book House, has opened its eighth store on Residency Road.

Chief Minister D V Sadananda Gowda launched the showroom on Wednesday.

Besides housing over two lakh books, the store will also feature ‘Babyz only’, a retail venture for infants and a separate section of sports goods for children.

Nitin Shah, Managing Director of Sapna, said: “We are aiming to provide endless possibilities of reading to our customers of all age groups. A separate section for children will help them imbibe the habit of book reading,” he added.

According to Jayashree Batavia, CEO, Sapna Online, their online portal receives over 600 orders a day.

“It is mainly textbooks that get ordered online mainly by school and college students. There is a lot of demand for Kannada books too as we have over two lakh Kannada titles.

There are over 10 million books that are available online,” she added. Paresh Shah, CEO, Sapna Book House, said that they conduct special programme on Kirigami (paper craft with paper and scissors), which helps children learn shapes and geometry lessons. There are also weekend story telling sessions conducted by well-known writers.

“There are more children visiting book shops and purchasing books online. Since some of the schools have made book reading and writing mandatory, reading culture still persists,” he added. Sapna Book House is planning to open its branches in tier-II cities including Hubli, Dharwad and Gulbarga.

At present there are six branches in Bangalore, one each in Mangalore and Mysore.
