Director Arnab Chaudhuri is all set to make his big screen directorial debut with the animation film Arjun: The Warrior Prince, which is set to hit theaters today.

Arnab holds a graduation degree from the NID, Ahmedabad in animation and has been working in the field for the last 18 years but somewhere in his mind he always wanted this movie to happen. “Arjun is the biggest action hero we have. His entire history and culture makes him the greatest of all times. If I had to pick one action hero, it would be him. He is bigger than Bruce Lee for sure,” Arnab tells Metrolife.

Having worked with children for over 12 years, makes Arnab somewhat of an authority to understand their minds better than any other director. But this time Arnab breaks his limitations and moves to a bigger audience. “You really need to understand their psychology when you do anything for children. But this movie is wider in scope. Yes, children can enjoy it but the focus and what drives this film is not children.”

As a film Arjun would classify as “an action epic film and an action adventure told on a very big scale. It’s like a martial arts movie and every action lover is going to enjoy this film.”

The film depicts the heroic journey of Arjun, starting from his youthful days till the times he emerged as a heroic warrior. From Himalayas to Hastinapur, the film tells the untold story of Arjun and all that he did to become a hero.

The music of the movie is given by Vishal-Shekhar and the heavy duty work of converting old lyrics to suit levels of today’s generation was undertaken by Piyush Mishra. “When you see Mahabharata, there are a lot of Sanskrit shloks that keep everything very formal.

So what Piyushji and Vishal-Shekhar did beautifully was to retain the concept in music and lyrics. Everything is written from the perspective of a common man,” said Arnab.

A team of 300 professionals from Tata Elxsi’s Visual Computing Labs worked on Arjun’s drawing board for it to emerge in its present form. The director mentions that mature animation that is used in the movie, will make it different from all other Indian animation movies.

“It’s very different from other contemporary animation movies as they are comedies for children. This film is not a comedy for kids but an action epic adventure meant for all age groups. The story may be familiar to the Indian audiences but in the movie they will watch Mahabharata in a whole new way, like never before. We have followed a completely different approach to this epic. The film is actually Arjun’s Arjun told from my perspective.”
