A spurned lover consumed poison and made a bid to knock on the doors of the office of the commissioner of police in the city on Saturday, seeking justice.

Shivakumar, 23 years, a resident of Belavaththa (Manti) on KRS road is the youth. Police sources said, Shivakumar a Dalit was in love with a girl from different caste in Bangalore. In his statement to Nazarbad police, Shivakumar alleged that the girl turned down his request for marriage following parents objection.

Shivakumar, who took poison at his place, came straight to the police commissioner’s office around 5 pm. The sentry at the main gate stopped him. Much before the police on vigil could ask him, Shivakumar collapsed. The police officers who were just out of the meeting on crime presided over by the police commissioner K L Sudheer, rushed towards the gate, only to find the youth in distress.

Shivakumar was immediately rushed to the nearby Shantaveri Gopalgowda Hospital, from where he was shifted to Apollo BGS Hospitals. According to another source, Shivakumar had also poured kerosene, but yet to be confirmed by the police. It’s also not known, how he could reach the commissioner’s office in Nazarbad, nearly 10 km from his native place, in that condition.
