Hundreds of flex boards erected and installed atop buildings on the important roads and circles have become an eyesore in Mandya city. It is not only spoiling the beauty of the city but also denying the revenue to the city municipal council.

Be it a birthday of a political leader, a party convention or the appointment of office-bearers, or the death of a person, a flex board appears overnight at vantage points in the city. The ‘flex culture’ has not even spared ordinary meetings and functions.

There is even competition among the followers of the political leaders to erect flex to please him.

While a follower installs one, another chooses more than one and wants to fix it at important places to be in the good book of the leader, resulting in a series of flex marring the beauty of the city.

The demand for the flex are on the rise as the technology has become easier and available at nominal cost to suit the pockets of any person.

The flexes which were once limited only to political related functions has even spread to other sections of the society and even educational institutions are not lagging behind.

Electric poles

Majority of the flexes are tied to the electric poles violating all the rules. According to the norms  such boards, flexes or banners should not be tied. Cesc officials too have turned a blind eye towards the issue.

Footpath

These flexes are even tied to the electric pole and the wall blocking the way of the pedestrians using the footpath.

The parties willing to instal flexes in the city limits should take prior permission from the CMC which will approve only three flex boards from a single party.

Permission is taken for formality sake and more than ten flexes are installed. While some others do not even take permission and tie them according to their whims and fancies.

CMC commissioner S Prakash says that excess flexes are removed by the staff and assured that stern action will be taken on the violators in future.
