Candidates in fray for Council polls

The Election Commission of India has finalised the nominations for Council elections from six teachers and graduates constituencies which is slated for June 10.

As many as 16 candidates are in the fray from Bangalore graduates constituency, where four-time MLC Ramachandra Gowda has been fielded by BJP, Ramojam by Congress and A Devegowda by JD(S). The post was till recently held by Ramachnadra Gowda. Other candidates are K S Lakshmi (CPM), Ashwin Mahesh (Loksatta Party), D M Devegowda (Ind); Doddegowda (Ind), Nagalakshmi Bai (Ind), M K Ningappa (Ind), D Bhemana (Ind), H R Manjunath Prasad (Ind), T B Madhavraja (Ind), Ramanaik (Ind), Y Nata Sehakara Sharma (Ind), K M Suresh (Ind), and Sultana Begum (Ind). 

The North-East graduates constituency, which was held by Manohar Maski (BJP), will also have 16 contestants. 

While nine candidates are in the fray in South-East teachers constituency, which was vacated by Y A Narayana Swamy (Independent); seven candidates vying for the South-West graduates constituency seat, held by D H Shankarmurthy (BJP). South-West teachers constituency, vacated by Ganesh Karnik (BJP), has eight contestants, while names of six candidates have been finalised for South teachers constituency, vacated by Maritibbe Gowda (Independent).

Counting of votes is on June 13 and results will be announced on June 15.
