Last Updated 30 May 2012, 20:41 IST

Union finance minister Pranab Mukherjee on Wednesday inaugurated a new office of the income tax department at the tallest building in the national capital – the civic centre.

While the department’s office at the ITO would continue to operate from the heritage building, the new building called “Pratyaksh Kar Bhawan”, will house the offices of salary charges, non-corporate charges, international taxation, exemption and other allied charges, accommodating nearly 800 officers and 1,500 other staff members, an income tax official said.

“With better facilities at the new office, I am sure the department would continue to deliver better services to the tax payer,” Mukherjee said.
