Narrating the entire episode of the fatal attack on him, Karnataka Beary Sahithya Academy President Rahim Uchil said that it is the handy work of KFD activists who have even in the past warned him of dire consequences for his proximity to the BJP.

Addressing his maiden news conference after being discharged out of the hospital, on Friday, Uchil said that due to the attack he has lost one finger of his right hand and fortunately his left hand has successfully been restored by the expert team of doctors who treated him.

He said that though the miscreants had come to the office of the Beary Sahitya Academy on March 15 to make him to death, the intention behind such a gruesome attack has not been found yet.

“The police have identified the people behind the attack. We do not want any innocent to be nabbed. Hence the police are taking their own time. There has been no delay in the investigation,” he said adding that all measures have been taken by the police to see to it that the culprits do not leave the country and fly outside.

Appointment of members

Talking about the functioning of the Academy, he said that 12 members to the Academy will be appointed by the Government within next two weeks, after which the standing committees will be formed.  “The work of the Academy will be carried forward with great zeal and enthusiasm,” Rahim Uchil said.

He further informed that he had urged the Government to grant ‘Beary Bhavan’ on the lines of ‘Konkani’ and ‘Tulu Bhavana’ and the Government has responded positively. “The Government has asked us to identify a land for the Bhavan. Likewise, we have identified a plot at Padil. The proposal was kept before the Deputy Commissioner and the same has been moved to the Mangalore City Corporation. The proposal will be tabled during the Corporation Council meet this time. If approved, even we will have a Bhavan for ourselves,” said Uchil.

Registrar of the Karnataka Beary Sahitya Academy Umarabba among others were present.
