The Congress MP, who was coming back to Delhi after inaugurating a Youth Congress convention in Ludhiana, was not hurt as he was not on the three coaches which was stoned. There were no immediate reports of any injury to passengers while Special Protection Group sources said there was no threat to Rahul.
While coaches C1, C2 and C7 were hit by stones, Rahul was seated in C3 which was spared. The broken pane hit some children but were said to have escaped unhurt.
The incident happened around 10 pm at a rail crossing near the Ghokrunda station in Panipat district in Haryana, according to a Northern Railways. The train was travelling at a speed of 20 km per hour at the time of the incident, he said.
The spokesman said the train did not halt and continued with its journey.Manish Tewari, MP from Ludhiana was also travelling with Rahul.
