Labourers stage protest in Madikeri

Kodagu district General Workers Union, Kodagu district Construction Workers Association, Karnataka Rajya Akshara Dasoha Employees Association, Karnataka Panchayat Employees Association, Karnataka Anganwadi Workers Association, Karnataka Hamali Workers Association took part in the protest.

The labourers took out a protest from Gandhi Maidan and formed human chain in General Thimmaiah Circle. Later, they shouted slogans and culminated the protest in Fort premises. The demands include free sites and BPL card for the labourers; distribution of 14 essential commodities through PDS at confessional rate; regularisation of the anganwadi workers, mid day meal workers, Gram Panchayat workers.

They said all the unorganised labourers must be provided social security and solve the problem of unemployment.

Health insurance and pension must be provided to the labourers. All the laws related to labourers must be implemented effectively.
