<p>Aimed at promoting eco-friendly and smoke-free mode of transport, electric-run rickshaws will soon ply on the streets of east and central Delhi.<br /><br /></p>.<p>While the the e-rickshwas – which will be known as Pedi Cabs – have been designed by Central Mechanical Engineering Research Institute – a subsidiary of Council of Scientific and Industrial Research – they have been manufactured by HBL Power Systems Limited.<br /><br />To promote Pedi Cabs, which ply at the maximum speed of 30 km/hour, the BSES Yamuna Power Ltd and HBL Power System Ltd signed an agreement on Monday.<br /><br /> Under the agreement, BYPL will provide e-charging infrastructure for the cabs at nominal charges. These eco-friendly cabs are meant for local transportation carrying three persons at a time.</p>
