With rhythm in their steps

Sai Nrithyotsav, by Sai Arts International, was recently held in the City. The event was coloured with the finest presentation of bharatanatyam.

Eight bharatanatyam artistes showcased their dancing skills with grace and femininity.

The festival has completed three years and 180 teams have participated in the event. A dance festival which is conducted on first of every month, Sai Nrithyotsav drew a huge crowd, with classical dance afficionados enjoying the performances.

The very first dance performance of the evening was by Gowri Sagar. She performed a bharatanatyam piece with ease and confidence.

There was a rhythmic flow to her performance which captivated the attention of those present. People of all age groups attended the classical dance event.

Then came a dance-feature. The theme of the performance was Dashavatar. It was a powerful yet elegant performance by Kavyashree, Pushya, Shamika, Shweta,Sindhu and Anjana.

These girls epitomised beauty and grace. Not losing synchronisation even for a second, these artistes seemed engrossed in their performance. The audience remained spellbound throughout the performance.

Suparna Venkatesh, the choreographer, beautifully weaved the story of the abduction of Sita by Ravan through various complicated and quick foot movements. It was a stupendous dance performance which was well-appreciated by the audience.

Their expressive eyes, mudras and rhythmic footwork were perfect enough to get a thunderous applause from the people. It was indeed a visual treat for the classical dance lovers. The final performance was by Shweta Krishnan.

It was an odissi dance performance and Shweta won the hearts of the people by her fine dance movements. It was truly an effortless performance. Pooja S, an audience member, says, “The event was a display of fine talent in classical dance. I thoroughly enjoyed it.”

Another audience member, Deepanjali M, described the event as colourful and lively. “Such a large crowd for a dance programme only indicates that the people still like the Indian classical art form.

Also, the dancers were mesmerising,” she says. This dance festival proved to be a successful one. The audience enjoyed it and said that they are looking forward to the next Nrithyotsav.
