Ornaments of Maran's kin stolen from bank locker

Jewellery worth Rs 10 lakh, including bangles studded with diamonds, belonging to Neena Belliappa - the mother-in-law of Sun Network managing director Kalanidhi Maran - have been allegedly stolen from the locker of a bank.

Neena’s elder daughter Kaveri is married to Kalanidhi, the elder brother of former union telecom minister Dayanidhi Maran and close relative of former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi. Neena’s younger daughter lives in Bangalore. Neena, wife of late Jammada Belliappa, filed a complaint with the Jayalakshmipuram police in this regard on Tuesday.

A resident of Jayalakshmipuram in the city, she has been operating the locker (number 34) at Canara Bank, local branch for the past eight years.

Quoting her statement, the officer said, she visited the bank on March 13 and kept a purse  containing the valuables in the locker. On June 1, she went to the bank and opened the locker, only to find the valuables missing.
