With the BSP deciding not to field its candidate and the BJP candidate failing to file his nomination papers, Uttar Pradesh chief minister Akhilesh Yadav’s wife Dimple Yadav is all set to win the Kannauj Lok Sabha by-election in a one -sided down contest.

While the Congress had declared that it would not field its nominee against Dimple, the BSP on Wednesday announced its decision to leave the field open for the SP nominee. Even though the BJP decided to contest the election at the eleventh hour, its candidate failed to file his nomination papers on the last day. With only two independent candidates in the fray, the June 24 bypolls is likely to be cakewalk for Dimple, contesting for the second time to enter the Lok sabha. If she wins the election, Dimple will become the fourth member of the Mulayam Singh Yadav family in Parliament.

Dimple's first attempt to enter the Lok Sabha had proved to be a failure after she lost to Congress leader Raj Babbar from Firozabad in the 2009 bypolls. Akhilesh had contested from Kannauj and Firozabad for the Lok Sabha seats in 2009.
