e-Resource key to check plagiarism;UGC official

Shodhganga, digital library of e-theses of universities, soon

e-Resource not only helps acquire knowledge at the click of the mouse, but also find out about plagiarism, said director of UGC- INFLIBNET Centre, Ahmedabad, Dr Jagdish Arora.

He was speaking at the e-Resource awareness programme organised by the University of Mysore in association with UGC- INFLIBNET Centre, at the Einstein Auditorium, Department of Physics, Manasagangotri in the city.

Arora said that by relying on the data available on internet, the varsities can also check plagiarism in the area of research. In another way, it has already helped increase in the number of thesis by 75 per cent.

By investing on technology like infonet, the libraries will not only develop but also will be in a profitable position. Profit to the tune of 60 per cent more than the investment can be expected. Taking cognisance of the same, all the varsities have been instructed to equip themselves with video conferencing, intra net and lan network facilities.

The proposed Shodhganga- digital library of e-theses of Indian universities, also helps curious minds to peek into the tome from any corner of the world. This makes exchange of information easy and also improve quality of research.

Digitalisation

Arora said that the financial aid extended to the universities under 11th five year plan for digitalisation will continue under 12th five year plan too.

Former vice chancellor P Venkataramaiah said though informations are available at the click of the mouse, a software to check plagiarism should be developed. If research works are made available in global level, it could then help in checking plagiarism.

Vice-chancellor, University of Mysore, V G Talawar, advisor to library I R N Goudar and librarian C P Ramasesh were present.
