Vivekananda Road is one of the vast and important roads of Mandya. But travelling on this road and reaching home safely is itself an achievement.

The Vivekananda (double) road in Ashoknagar is adjoining to Mysore-Bangalore highway and connects the 100 ft road of the city.

Though there are other roads, the buses and trucks carrying goods and plying towards Bannur, T Narsipur and other places prefer this road as it is double road and for its convenience.

The whole stretch of road is ridden with potholes and plying on the road is a nightmare. The truck drivers and other riders negotiate on the road and are forced to go on the wrong side.

The road has worn out and the houses and shops on both sides of the road are covered with a coat of dust.

A house that was demolished has not cleared the debris which is posing threat to the vehicle users. The City Municipal Council should at least take steps to clear the garbage and provide temporary relief to the road users.

The CMC had decided to asphalt the road at a cost of Rs 90 lakh and also had prepared an action plan in this regard. The PES Engineering college had recommended to lay concrete road.

CMC commissioner Prakash said, tender process for laying road at an estimation of Rs 90 lakh is in process and had got delayed as election code of conduct was in place.

The other road works would be taken up with Rs seven crore to be released by the state government, he assured.

The works would not be taken up till the monsoon is over and the residents have some more time to travel in a good asphalted road.
