LIC employees hold one-day strike

Government is creating hurdles for wage revision

The employees belonging to All India Insurance Employees Association (AIIEA), All India Life Insurance Employees Association (AILIEA) and LIC Class 1 Officers Federation who assembled before the Divisional office of LIC here shouted slogans which included demand for meaningful wage revision and saving LIC in public sector.

Speaking to the media LIC Class 1 Officers Federation General Secretary Shankar Shetty, AIIEA General Secretary U Gurudath, and AILIEA General Secretary Manohar Veigas claimed that the strike was a “total success” in the division comprising Udupi, Dakshina Kannada and Chikmagalur districts. The wage revision was pending since August 2007. Both the management and the government have so for failed to take any positive decision on the issue, they said.

Though the government was indicated that all those profit making public sector units were free to take their own decision on the issues like wage revision, the government was creating obstacles at every stage on the issue, they alleged. Despite, effects of global meltdown, during last two fiscal year the LIC had made good progress and earned Rs 1,57,186 crore First Premium Income during the period and settling one claim in every two second, they informed.

As the government failed to take any positive decision on the long pending wage revision unlike wage revision implemented in other public sector units, the employees of LIC were forced to go for one day national strike today, they added LIC Class 1 Officers Federation President P L Upadhyaya, Vice President Ramdass Tantry, AIIEA President Prabhaker B Kunder, Women Convener Niramala, AILIEA President I S M Sharma, Vice President D K Karkera and others were present.
