Unauthorised child care centre in Kaithal to face enquiry

Last Updated 12 June 2012, 20:13 IST

With controversy surrounding the Rohtak Apna Ghar shelter home incident yet to die down, a child care centre in Haryana's Kaithal district has been found to have been functioning "unauthorisedly".

"All the seven children who were below 18 years of age and the inmates of Durga Bal Anathalya, Kaithal, which is an unregistered child care centre, will be shifted to Braham Shakti Ashram, village Tatiana of Guhla Sub Division (located nearby)," Kaithal deputy commissioner, Chander Shekhar said on Tuesday.

He has also ordered an inquiry as the centre was being run in an unauthorised manner without registration, an official release said here.

Directions have also been issued to officials concerned to inspect all unregistered child care centres being run in an unauthorised manner in Kaithal district and facilities provided by these centres, he added.

BJP for CBI probe

The BJP demanded a CBI probe on Tuesday into
Rohtak’s Apna Ghar shelter home for alleged sexual abuse and torture of its inmates.

The BJP’s Haryana unit led by its President Krishan Pal Gurjar and other leaders, including Rattan Lal Kataria, Kishen Singh Sangwan, both former MPs, Ram Bilas Sharma and Veer Kumar Yadav, met Governor, Jagannath Pahadia here and demanded a probe by the premier investigating agency.

"It is shameful that the Hooda government had been in deep slumber, even as heinous acts were going on in the shelter home in Rohtak, the chief minister's home district,” said Gurjar.

He said the shelter home’s owner allegedly enjoyed patronage from powerful people and illegal acts were going on there for a long time and even the state CID department did not get a wind of this.

He also said it was astonishing that the shelter home owner was conferred with an award by the government.

On Monday, the Haryana government withdrew the women's empowerment award it had conferred on Jaswanti Devi, who ran the shelter home in Rohtak.
