A gang of four inter-state highway robbers, including two receivers of stolen property, have been arrested at Moti Nagar in west Delhi, police said on Tuesday.

Kailash, 30, Kashi, 24, Hari Babu, 49, and Ashu Singhal, 28, were held during an investigation of theft of a truck loaded with 60 gunny bags of gutkha from a factory at Moti Nagar about 20 days back.

“We had received an information that Kailash and his gang members were involved in the theft, and will assemble near Lawrence Road in the stolen truck on Monday to plan another theft,” said Sanjay Kumar Jain, deputy commissioner of police (crime and railways).

Immediately, a trap was laid near the Lawrence Road fire station. “Around 3:20 pm, a truck was signalled to stop, but the driver tried to flee from the spot. We, however, managed to stop the vehicle and apprehend Kailash and Kashi,” Jain added.

They confessed that they had stolen the truck from Moti Nagar and disclosed that they sold the stolen goods to Hari Babu.

Police then apprehended Hari and some stolen goods were recovered from his possession. Hari told police about selling the stolen goods to Ashu Singhal, on which he was also arrested and some of goods recovered from his possession.

Kailash further told police that he along with another accomplices – Harbir and Devender – had also robbed a truck loaded with cosmetic goods at Desh Bandhu Gupta Road in October, 2011.

“Harbir and Devender were arrested in the case earleir and part of the robbed goods has been recovered. But Kailash was evading police net,” Jain said.

He further accepted his involvement in the robbery of a truck loaded with PVC rolls at Sarai Rohilla in December, 2011. A non-bailable warrant was issued against Kailash in this case.
