Will solve GPS issue soon: Lovely

Last Updated 13 June 2012, 21:09 IST

Responding on the controversy over the GPS devices installed on DTC buses, transport minister Arvinder Singh Lovely said the issue will be sorted out soon.

“There is a small financial problem involved with the issue. We had a meeting today in this regard and the matter will be resolved soon,” Lovely said.

The global positioning system (GPS) on DTC buses, which were installed to keep a tab on their movement, has not been working since June 1.

The vendors providing the service to the control centre located at the Millennium depot have deactivated the system due to non-payment of outstanding amount to Delhi Integrated multi-modal Transit System (DIMTS).

The DTC management has also written to the transport department seeking intervention on the issue.

Sources said that DTC managment, apart from discontinuing the GPS services, has also alleged in its letter that the GPS system does not function properly and there are several lacunae which produce faulty information.

However, the DIMTS officials have refuted such allegations.

“We are using the same GPS system in monitoring the cluster buses. There has been no complaints whatsoever. Had there been any problem, why didn’t they register a complaint over the last two years,” said S N Sahai, MD of DIMTS.
