Hearing a petition by Shamon Ahmed and others, the Court rejected the petition, saying that they cannot be given a choice, but has permitted them to voluntarily assist in the kitchen. However, the Court has warned that undertrials cannot complain about working in the kitchen. The petitioners had moved the Court stating that the food quality in the prison is poor.
Probe order upheld
The High Court has upheld the State Government’s order dated October 28, 2006 for investigation by the Corp of Detectives (CoD) against Champakadhama Swamy, following the allegation of cheating members of the KPTCL Employees’ Co-operative Society by promising them sites.
The Court, which upheld the order, partially allowed Swamy’s petition, directing that the report be submitted to the State Government.
The Court has termed that the order for CoD probe is valid, but has directed the CoD to submit the report to the Court instead of the Government.
