Turmeric procurement ends in Nanjangud

Procurement of turmeric has stopped here following the government’s order. The central government had taken measures to provide Rs 5,000 as support price for each quintal of turmeric.

Following this, the TAPCOMS had been given Rs 1.58 crore for procuring turmeric fixing June 15 as the last date for procuring the crops.

However, surprisingly on the last day, Rs 30 lakh was released. The centre was that opened on April 21 and closed transactions on June 15, had procured 1367.13 quintal of turmeric from 49 farmers. The number of farmers who have registered is 323 and the remaining 274 are yet to supply their crops. With procurement being stopped now, farmers are left in lurch.

Of this, Rs 30.89 lakh has been paid to farmers, while Rs 37.40 lakh is remaining. The total transaction is around Rs 68.38 lakh. However, still Rs 78.54 lakh has still been unused. Sources said that the district administration has urged the central government to extend the procurement.
