BEL removes Madhavan Nair from board of directors

Defence PSU Bharat Electronics Limited has removed former ISRO Chairman G Madhavan Nair, who was blacklisted from holding any government job for his role in the controversial Antrix-Devas deal, from its board of directors.

The former ISRO chief was blacklisted along with three other space scientists in February by the Centre from holding any government job or position.

"BEL has informed the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) that Government of India has removed G Madhavan Nair, Independent Director, from the board of the company," the public sector undertaking informed the BSE today.

After the government decision in February, Nair had also resigned as the Chairman, Board of Governors of IIT, Patna.

A five-member team that probed the deal between ISRO's commercial arm Antrix Corporation and Devas Multimedia had concluded that Nair and three other scientists were responsible for the controversial contract.

The committee, chaired by former Central Vigilance Commissioner (CVC) Pratyush Sinha, had observed serious lapses of judgement on the part of various officials, and noted that in some cases the actions verged on the point of breach of public trust.
