Around six police officials were injured after a mob turned violent over a road accident at Welcome in north-west Delhi late on Wednesday.

The incident took place after Akram’s scooter was rammed from behind by a speeding truck around 11.30 pm. The 25-year-old plumber is undergoing treatment at Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital.

“Akram was crushed under the wheels of the truck. His condition is critical,” a police official said.

Soon after receiving information about the accident, Akram’s relatives and infuriated locals allegedly started pelting stones and torched the truck and, with it, four other trucks.

Local people alleged that accidents take place regularly in the area.

Several police officials were injured while trying to bring the situation under control. Fire tenders took nearly two hours to douse the flames.

Autorickshaw turns turtle

Two persons were injured when a speeding aurorickshaw turned turtle while overtaking a motorcycle at Welcome on Wednesday.

The accident took place around 7.30 pm. Mohan Lal, 47, of Kabir Nagar and Ayub Khan of Ghaziabad shared the autorickshaw.

“Mohan, who was going towards Kashmere Gate, had warned the autorickshaw driver to drive slow. But, he continued recklessly and lost control while trying to overtake a motorcycle near Tent Wala School in Zafrabad,” a police official said.

“A police control room vehicle later took them to Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital. The duo was treated for lacerated wounds and abrasions,” the official added.
