Three persons, including a woman, have been arrested in Netaji Subhash Place for involvement in a gang which cheated people on the pretext of installing mobile towers on their field, rooftop and vacant plots, police said on Thursday.

Rajesh Singh, 29, of Quatab Garh, Narender, 30, of Sultanpuri, and Mamta Arora, 20, of Shahdara were held after information were recieved that a gang was publishing advertisement in newspapers inducing people to earn more and easy money.

“They used to contact people living in the national capital region who were interested in mobile tower installation on their land.

Decoy customer sent

“We prepared a decoy customer and contacted on the mobile phone number mentioned in the advertisement,” said Dr P Karunakaran, additional deputy commissioner of police (outer).

As per commitment made over phone, the decoy customer along with a shadow witness met Rajesh near ISCON Temple at Rohini sector 25 on Wednesday. They were then taken to the gang’s office ‘American Tower Company’ at Netaji Subhash Place, where Narender and Mamta were also present.

“Rajesh then agreed to allot a mobile tower for which he took Rs 4,000 as registration fee and gave an information letter, rent agreement and job appointment letter to the decoy customer,” Karunakaran added.

As soon as the deal was made, the shadow witness came out of the office and signalled to a police team waiting outside.

Cops immediately raided the office and apprehended Rajesh, Narender and Mamta and recovered Rs 4,000 paid by the decoy customer.

Recovery of fake articles

“We also recovered SIM cards and ATM cards taken on fake identity, rubber stamps of different mobile tower companies and huge quantity of information letters, rent agreement, job appointment letters of different mobile tower companies,” Karunakaran said.

Rajesh was the leader of the gang, which has around 25 members working across the national capital region. A case of cheating has been lodged against the gang at Shahbad Dairy police station. Rajesh and Narender further disclosed that they were previously involved two similar incidents reported last year.
