JOIN USGopi 'tricks for Postal
Gopi’s hat-trick spurred Postal FC to a resounding 5-1 win over BEL Sports Club in the BDFA Super Division match at the Bangalore Football stadium on Saturday.
The win helped Postal to collect six points from five matches while BEL suffered their sixth successive defeat.
Gopi’s goals came in the sixth, 20th and 73rd minutes of the game and Arun Pondey (76th) and Sharath (80th) struck the other two goals for Postal. Mohan netted the consolation goal for BEL in the 44th minute.
Postal, who controlled the game from the start, went ahead in the 6th minute with Gopi finding the net with a powerful shot from the right.
Sharath and Gopi combined well upfront to trouble the BEL defence.
But Sharath missed two chances in the 10th and 13th minutes, with the striker first hitting wide before fumbling on the second occasion.
In the 20th minute, Gopi slotted home after a through ball from Subba with the BEL custodian Hariharan failing to collect the ball cleanly.
BEL were back on the back foot by the two goals but Arvind and Shreen led fightback with some useful counter-attacks. BEL soon reduced the margin through Mohan, who found the net with a shot from outside the penalty area, right at the stroke of half-time.
After the break, Postal made the contest a one-sided affair.
In the 73rd minute, Gopi completed the hat-trick when he slotted home a through pass from Srinivas to make it 3-1. Arun Pondey then tapped in off a Subba cross in the 76th minute. Three minutes later, Sharath, who blitzed his way through the left wing, came close to scoring before he was thwarted by BEL’s Yesu Raja.
But he made up for the lost opportunity with a tap-in off a Ricky pass in the 80th minute.
