1,744 beneficiaries get ` 3.36 cr from KMDC

Karnataka Minorities Development Corporation (KMDC) President N B Aboobakar said that Rs 3.36 crores is released for 1744 beneficiaries in Udupi district for the 2012-13 fiscal year.

Speaking to media persons, the KMDC President said the Corporation has allotted maximum funds to Udupi district. For the year 2012-13, Rs 189.90 lakhs is released to reach the target of 1030 beneficiaries and under Christian Community Development programme, the amount released is Rs 146.05 lakhs for 714 beneficiaries.

Since last four years after BJP government resuming power, the government has allotted Rs 4.25 crores to as many as 2519 beneficiaries. In contrast, the former government had allotted only Rs 1.14 crore for 819 beneficiaries during its entire tenure in the district, he alleged.

Stating that only six beneficiaries have applied under subsidy facilities for house construction, Aboobakar said that the district has received less applications and as many as 65 beneficiaries can avail the benefits under the programme.

This programme is initiated under Christian Community Development Programme. The beneficiary can produce xerox copies comprising the details of loan approved by the bank manager. The same copy should be attested by Charted Accountant.

The beneficiary should have annual income not exceeding Rs 1.5 lakhs. The Corporation will help with Rs1 lakh as subsidy for the loan interest taken to construct the houses.

The interest will be calculated after 2007, he said.

The district has also received fewer applications for Swalambana and Arivu schemes. In Karkala, there is less response to the programme extending financial help to SHGs.

He said attempts will be made to boost the project and convince people to come forward to avail the benefits. Udupi district has stood second next only to Hassan in loan recoveries, he added.
