Panel for mango marketing

The High Court of Karnataka on Tuesday constituted a high-power committee to monitor the implementation of measures taken to facilitate the mango production and ensure market for the produce in the State.

During the hearing of a petition by mango growers of Srinivasapur and others, the State government submitted a list of 14 members for the committee.

Additional Chief Secretary, Department of Horticulture will head the committee and Principal Secretary, Agriculture Department, Director of Agricultural Marketing, Director of Horticulture and others are the members of the panel.

A mango grower, Ashok Krishnappa, was also selected as a member following a submission by the counsel for petitioners.

The committee will empower farmers in agronomic, harvesting and post harvest practices; monitor maintenence of database of mangoes, growers, producers and traders.

The other responsibilities of the panel include giving suggestions to improve infrastructure facilities in agri market yards, promoting supply chain management across country and ascertain problems faced by growers at the grass root level.

The Court directed the committee to call a meeting within 15 days.
