Two labourers were killed after a portion of a fire station’s wall collapsed at Gokulpuri in north-east Delhi on Wednesday.

Pramod, 21, and Zohar, 45, who hailed from Bihar, were working on a drain near the fire station when the incident took place around 8.15 am.

“About six labourers were engaged by a private contractor when the wall came down collapsing like a pack of cards. It is learnt that due to a leakage, water got accumulated under its foundation,” a police official said.

The labourers, who were trapped under the debris, were rescued after a joint operation by police and fire officials. They were immediately taken to Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital, where Pramod and Zohar were declared brought dead.

A case of causing death by negligence has been lodged at Gokulpuri police station. Senior police officials are questioning the contractor and other labourers to ascertain the exact sequence of events.

Cops have informed the families of the deceased. “We have preserved the bodies for post-mortem, which will be conducted after their families arrive,” the official added.
