Leopard 'kills' 40 emus

A leopard reportedly killed as many as 40 emus in an enclosure at a farm in K Hosahalli, Kunigal taluk Tuesday night.

H G Cheluvaraja, president of Krishika Samaja taluk unit, who has reared the emus, said the leopard probably had attacked the birds at previous night and he found their mutilated bodies Wednesday morning. He immediately complained to the forest officers and the police.

He said the emus were in the farm for the past one year and there was great demand for their eggs and chicks. Cheluvaraju claimed that he had suffered a loss of Rs 10 lakh.
