The Delhi government on Wednesday gave its nod to construct 7,400 economically weaker section (EWS) houses for slum dwellers under Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM) at Bhalasawa, Jahagirpuri.

It was also decided to construct a community hall at Trilokpuri at an estimated cost of Rs 3.75 crore at a Delhi Urban Shelter Improvement Board (DUSIB) meeting chaired by chief minister Sheila Dikshit.

Dikshit said the EWS houses approved by the board will have five floors and come up at an estimated cost of Rs 356.79 crore.

“They will also have water supply, toilets, electricity and drainage facilities. Roads, paths, boundary walls and sewerage will also be built,” she said underlining the need for quality construction and proper maintenance.

Unauthorised colonies

On the question of regularisation of unauthorised colonies, she said things were moving in the right direction and some of the colonies will be regularised in the next couple of months.

According to urban development minister A K Walia, the process of regularisation of unauthorised colonies will begin on August 15.

“Unauthorised colonies on private land across the Capital are more likely to be regularised first,” said Walia.

The department of urban development will levy charges on colonies built on government land and hence their regularistaion can be delayed till the time payment is made.
Trans Yamuna Area Development Board will fund the work of building the community hall at Trilokpuri.

DUSIB’s budget for 2012-13 was also approved and will be sent to the Delhi government for consideration.

To improve the financial health of the board, specific measures are proposed to enhance the capital receipts and revenue receipts by disposing of residential and commercial plots, building up shops and brining special schemes to convert licensed property to freehold.

Police chief meets Dikshit

Newly appointed Delhi Police commissioner Neeraj Kumar met chief minister Sheila Dikshit at her office in Delhi Secretariat on Wednesday, reports DHNS. According to information, Dikshit discussed the law and order situation in the city with Kumar, who was meeting her for the first time.

“The chief minister expressed concern about the traffic problems and security of women in the city,” said an official from chief the minister’s office.
