What would life be without colours? Dull and drab perhaps but not if you are a believer in the benefits of colour therapy. Those who practice it cite examples of its benefits.

For instance, if you are feeling low and sad, chances are wearing brightly coloured apparel will uplift your mood.

Abhishek Goyal, an entrepreneur, practices colour therapy on himself. “When I feel physically depleted I go to my garden and stare at the grass for five minutes. It immediately brings relief to my mind.”

Experts say colour has a healing effect on one’s inner health too. Pink, silver, red, orange, yellow and blue remove negativity while dull tones make one feel gloomy and despondent.

Vinay Garg, Vaastu expert at Future Point says; “Each direction in the house is dedicated to a particular planet which has a colour attached to it. Jupiter represents yellow while Mercury denotes green.

The blue produces calmness and orange is known to bring social confidence and happiness.” People use specific colours in the house for a balance of energies. East direction in the house represents Sun and should be painted in shades of yellow. The South must be given a red coating.

To level down argument between couples it is recommended that they get their room painted in shades of pink for it enhances bonding. White is the colour for the kitchen as the energy inside it circulates in the entire house.

In office spaces the accounting department should be painted yellow while for the company’s director room light blue is favourable.

Practicing gemology is another form of colour therapy. Gurmeet Singh, Head of Indian Institute of Gemology says, “The reflection of colours in gems is known as selective absorption of light. The Japanese have developed a technology where a person’s aura can now be scanned through a special camera and it can detect imbalance of colour in the body.”

Gems are known to bring financial and personal prosperity in one’s life and cure health, financial, career problems. Statistically, the past five years have seen a mushroom growth of 40 per cent in the sale of gems.

Dr Neha Rehani, psychiatrist and crystal therapist says, “Crystal or karma therapy transforms one’s mind. Colours of food like pizzas and drinks affect moods and emotions. They can excite, depress and tranquilise.”

So next time you see an ad of smoldering hot Dominos pizza, do remember it is not hunger but the bright colour of pepperoni that is making your tongue dribble.
