Two second half goals in the span of four minutes helped Postal FC register a 2-0 win over Karnataka State Police in the BDFA Super Division league at the Bangalore Football stadium here on Thursday.

Postal and KSP are already out of title race with Hindustan Aeronautics Sports Club (HASC), who completed their league engagements, on top of the standings with 20 points. Lying second in the table are KGF Academy, who have 13 points from six matches, and victories in their remaining three matches would ensure them the crown.

With goals from Sharath (82nd) and Arun Pandey (86th), Postal helped themselves to 10 points from eight matches, same as that of their opponents KSP who have a match in hand. Neither team showed any urgency in the first-half but Postal held the upper hand. Arun and Sunil tested KSP custodian Nagendra with long rangers while his opposite number Ravindran was hardly amidst action.

Nagendra was up to the task, palming away a curling right-footer from Arun, diving to his left, before the KSP goalkeeper came up with an acrobatic save to deny a left-footer from the edge of the box on the left by Sunil in the 11th minute. KSP had the rival defence on their toes on a couple of occasions in the second-half but the Cops failed to score.  When it seemed the match was heading towards a draw, Sharath came to Postal’s rescue.

Nagendra pushed away a curling free-kick from Govind to the path of Sharath, who nudged home a sitter. Four minutes later, Arun, after collecting a through pass from substitute Sham, placed the ball to the left of an advancing Nagendra to ensure three points for Postal.

Other results: ‘A’ Division: ISRO: 2 (Raghu 59th, 70th) bt SWR: 0.
