A real romance on screen

Real-life love stories have always been a source of inspiration for Kannada film-makers. And of late, many such movies — like Krishnan Love Story or even the more recent Sanju Weds Geetha — have clicked at the box office. Jumping on the bandwagon is 1998 Ondu Prema Kathe. Directed by Raghav Loki, the movie is inspired by a love story that took place in Mysore 14 years ago.

“I heard about the story through a common friend and I could just picturise it on the big screen. So we immediately worked on the script and we will start shooting for it soon,” says Raghav, who has movies like Satya In Love, Gilli and Lakshmi (under production) to his credit. What is really interesting about the film is the technique that has gone into making it.

“Almost 80 per cent of the film will be shot at night. So, we will be working with very little light and giving the story an interesting edge,” he explains. Since the incident took place in Mysore, Raghav says he will be shooting for the movie in Mysore itself.

Roping in Yogish as the lead actor, the director says that it will be the actor’s most challenging role so far.

“Only he can carry off this role with ease. Though he is busy with other commitments, I decided I would wait for him to get free to start work on this,” says Raghav, who is yet to sign on the heroine.

Yogish is currently busy working on Yaare Koogadali with Puneeth Rajkumar and will join the team later this month. But Raghav is fine with that, since he still has two songs of Lakshmi left to shoot.

Speaking about Lakshmi, Raghav says he is extremely happy with the project and can’t wait for the movie to hit screens. The film is based on terrorism and Raghav says that the project has been a long-time dream of his.

“Subjects like terrorism, corruption and black money have to be told to the people but as a film-maker, I have to ensure that my audience doesn’t get bored. Hence, we came out with the script that is packed with many commercial elements as well,” says Raghav.

But that’s not all — the director will also be starting another film with Duniya Vijay. “It will be an interesting project but I can’t reveal much about it right now,” he says. Looks like we will have to wait and watch what this director has to offer.

New venture

For the first time ‘Real Star’ Upendra and director Om Prakash Rao are teaming up for a mass entertainer titled Trivikrama.

Grapevine has it that Om Prakash Rao, who was earlier seen in a cameo in Upendra starrer Aishwarya, is all set to direct Upendra in a tailor-made script that suits the image of the ‘Real Star’.

Known for movies like ‘Lock Up Death’, ‘AK 47’, Kalasipalya, Bheema Theeradalli and others, Om Prakash, recently completed his 25th directorial project ‘AK 56’.

Visibly excited about the project, the director says, “It will definitely be a different movie and I had only Uppi in mind for the project. The movie is about a man who takes control of the City. It will have all the successful ingredients like love, action and comedy.”

The shooting will start in August and the movie will also see Telugu and Tamil actress Tapasee play the leading lady. M S Ramesh is writing the dialogues but other cast and crew are yet to be finalised.
