Addressing reporters here, BJP district spokesperson M B Devaiah said, “let Kaveri Sene discuss about the orange saplings distribution scheme of the Horticulture Department with the people’s representatives, before challenging it in the High Court.”

‘We have no intention of protecting corrupts. Let them challenge the issue in the court, if any kind of misappropriation was reported in the orange saplings distribution scheme in Nagapur. However, fighting can never be the only aim of an organisation,” he added.

Devaiah clarified that the Horticulture Department is distributing orange saplings freely under the National Horticulture Mission to rejuvenate the orange cultivation, which is on the verge of extinction. Farmers can get more yield from Nagpura orange saplings within a short period of its plantation. It will be very helpful for poor farmers, he said adding that the saplings were not distributed to farmers forcefully, he added.

“The main intention of Kaveri Sene is to create problems through organising protests against electricity, mining, sand mining, tree felling and any other projects. Party will have to organise workers to retaliate this, if they continue to do so,” Devaiah warned.

Zilla Panchayat Health Standing Committee President Manumuthappa said that farmers of Wayanad in Kerala, Hassan and Sakleshpur too are using the Nagpura orange saplings to get more yield. Hence, it is being distributed in the district on an experimental basis, he added.

BJP State Committee Member Shantheyanda Ravikushalappa, Madikeri Urban Development Authority President A K Palaksha, Taluk Panchayat president Talur Kishor Kumar and party member Ravibasappa were present.
