A man has been sentenced to seven years in jail by a Delhi court for raping a minor girl after promising her that he would marry her.

Additional Sessions Judge Suresh Chand Rajan sentenced 30-year-old Vijay Kumar, a native of Uttar Pradesh, on the victim’s deposition that he had committed the “wrong act.”

“I am of the view that she had made consistent statements and specifically made allegation against the accused that he had committed the wrong act with her,” the judge said, while sentencing the convict and imposing a fine of Rs 6,000.

The case against Kumar was filed in May 2010 by the victim’s father, a shopkeeper, who alleged that his employee Kumar had kidnapped his 15-year-old daughter.

Kumar was arrested on May 15, 2010 from Bhatinda in Punjab and the abducted girl was rescued. They were then brought to Delhi.

“Considering each and every facts and circumstances of the case, the victim has alleged that he had taken her away to Bhatinda forcibly, where he also bought her clothes and even put sindoor in her maang,” the court said.

“She has also levelled specific allegations that the accused had raped her four times,” the cout said.

It added that since she is a minor girl, her consent is therefore immaterial.

“The prosecution has proved its case without any reasonable doubt against Kumar,” the court said.
