Exuding confidence about the BJP’s failure in the next Assembly elections, Union Home Minister P Chidambaram said the State Congress stood a good chance of coming to power.

However, for the Congress to emerge victorious in the State both the leaders and party workers should project an united front.

Addressing office-bearers and leaders of the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) on Tuesday, Chidambaram accompanied by Union Law Minister Salman Khurshid, stressed the importance of party building.

The Congress should make ample use of the political crisis in the State, he said.

“It is an important day. In the past four years there has been change of government twice. The people, students and farmers alike, are disappointed by the BJP government.

The BJP who gained majority through ‘Operation Lotus’ is now whithering away,” he said.

Though wrong deeds of the BJP is catching up with the party, the people of the State finally have to face the  brunt of the situation, he noted.

Referring to Karnataka as a frontline State, Chidambaram said the Congress must sympathise with the people and put and end to their suffering. Bangalore which has gained the sobriquet “Knowledge City”, is constantly referred to by the US President Barack Obama.

However, now the prime position has been lost, and it is the responsibility of the KPCC to make a proper assessment of the situation and help the State regain its lost glory, said Chidambaram.

Hinting that a lot of work lay ahead of the State Congress in the next eight to nine months, the home minister assured assistance at all levels.

Also speaking on the occasion, Salman Khurshid that if Karnataka kept its ‘godh’ (lap) strong, then Congress would definitely come back to power.
