Activists demand CBI probe into C'garh carnage

Last Updated 10 July 2012, 18:52 IST

Close on the heels of Union minister Kishore Chandra Deo demanding a judicial probe into the controversial ''massacre of 17 adivasis'' in Chhattisgarh by CRPF personnel, civil right organisations have demanded a CBI probe into the ''carnage''.

Several such outfits are of the view that criminal charges under Section 302 of the IPC and the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act 1989 must be levelled against those responsible for such a heinous act.

Moreover, the victims’ kin want the inquiry to be held from ground zero. “We want the judicial inquiry to be held right in the village so that the victims and survivors of the worst killings in a tribal-police interface are exposed,” said Irpa Devamma (32) wife of one of the deceased adivasis .A fact-finding team  toured the affected villages last week to unravel the myth of a CRPF attack on Maoist camp in the Bijapur district of Chhatisgarh and adivasi men, women and children used as human shield by the ultras.
