Semifinal spots up for grabs

Last Updated 20 September 2009, 17:27 IST

In an all-important match, Provident Bangalore (eight points) will face Mysore Maharaajas and a win will propel the former into semis with 10 points.

In such a situation, Maharaajas will be eliminated with six points while Bijapur Bulls and Belagavi Panthers, both tied on eight points, will progress to the last four stage, completing the line-up. In a more complex scenario, if Mysore wins over Provident, it will leave four teams – Maharaajas, Provident, Panthers and Bulls — tied on eight points, bringing the net run rate into equation to decide the three other semifinalists.

Among the four, Provident lead the run rate table at present with 0.586 with Bulls at second spot with 0.217.

Panthers have a net run rate of 0.065 while Mahaarajas are a distant fourth with -0.273. Given their poor net run rate Mysore, it appears, have a mountain to climb, for they have to score a huge win to move up on the table. The other match on Monday, between Bangalore Brigadiers and Shamanur Davangere Diamonds, will be of mere academic interest as the former have already reached the semifinals, and Diamonds can only swell their tally to six points even if they manage to beat the Bangalore side.
