Just a week ago, as State party chief he had paid obeisance at the abode of Goddess Chamundeshwari.

Exactly a week later on Friday, he paid his obeisance to the Goddess, as a deputy chief minister of the State.

This was also how the newly sworn-in deputy chief minister K S Eshwarappa began speaking to media during his visit to the temple on last ashada Friday at Chamundi Hill.

Not only Eshwarappa, the day also was witness to the visit of ministers Suresh Kumar and S A Ramdas. While Suresh Kumar was accompanied by his family- wife and daughter, Ramdas in his usual trademark style- a dark shirt and silk dhothi and shalya sporting a smile made it to the temple.

Prayer

Eshwarappa told media, the first and foremost aim of the newly installed government is to address severe drought situation, the worst ever in 40 years in the State. His prayer to the goddess was to shower bountiful of rain for the betterment of farmers.

Said Eshwarappa: “In the case of nature’s fury, crores of money still proves measly to improve the situation.” The ministers will be returning to their respective districts and make possible efforts to tackle the situation.

Maintaining that there is no confusion in the party and all stand united, Eshwarappa said that the full-fledged cabinet that took oath with the chief minister is an indication of unity. That’s what even the opposition parties expect from the BJP-led State government in the State.

To a query, Eshwarappa said that the State has handled drought situation without waiting for the funds from the Centre. Barring release of Rs 70 crore towards drought, the centre is yet to release another Rs 380 crore as announced recently.

On the party legislator Haladi Srinivasa Shetty’s demand for ministry, Eshwarappa refuted the allegations that he and the then chief minister D V Sadananda Gowda, also from the coastal belt had promised him a berth. To another query, he said that the ministers will be allocated portfolios in a day or two. He clarified that he was not the one to stick to the State party chief’s post. “

Sadananda Gowda will be suitably accommodated by the high command,” said Eshwarappa to another poser.
