Police blamed for sitting on rape case

When the Park Street rape case is yet to die down, in another shocking incident the Kolkata police have been accused of sitting over a rape case for more than a month. The alleged rapist - son of an industrialist- is said to be moving around freely.

A famed radio jockey working with a city FM channel was allegedly raped at a rave party in a posh South Kolkata area. The party was hosted by the said accused who also is suspected to be involved in a drug peddling racket.

“The said victim who is a RJ in her complaint to police said she was raped by a person who happens to be the son of an industrialist. The alleged offender is suspected to be involved in drug pedalling,” Joint Commissioner (Crime) Pallab Kanti Ghosh told mediapersons.

Though the incident happened sometime in May but the formal police complaint was lodged on June 10. According to the complainant, all the people present including the son of the industrialist were familiar to each other. The incident happened during a rave party hosted by the alleged offender when the victim after consuming intoxicants lost her consciousness.The suspected offender taking advantage of the situation committed the crime.

When asked about the incident, a former commissioner of Kolkata police said: “This is absolutely shocking because the incident happened in May and the complaint was lodged in June. One month has passed. Police has done nothing.”
