Last Updated 16 July 2012, 18:40 IST

Minister for Youth Service and Sports M P Appacchu Ranjan said that priority will be given for the construction of stadiums in three taluks of Kodagu district.

Speaking to Deccan Herald, he said sports will be encouraged in the district. Funds will be released for laying the  school ground in all the government schools and colleges in the district.

He said programmes will be chalked out to instill the spirit of patriotism among the youth.

“I am dreaming of a Kodagu district which is free from villages that are devoid of basic facilities. All-weather road will be constructed in every village. By providing basic facilities in villages, migration of youth to urban areas from villages should be stopped,” he said.

Measures will be taken to grow bamboo inside the forest, to check wild elephant menace in the district. “We will ensure that family of a person who is killed in elephant attack will get a compensation of Rs 5 lakh.”

He said measures will be taken to check the mushrooming of illegal home stays in Kodagu.

“We have information that illegal activities are being carried out in few home stays in the district. The police have been directed to initiate stringent action against such home stays,” he said.

He promised to hold talks with Minister for Kannada and Culture to release additional funds for Thimmiah Memorial Bhavan in Madikeri.
