Last Updated 17 July 2012, 19:44 IST

As many as 702 senior citizens, aged between 60 and 70 years, have registered for ‘Jobs 60+ — you are never too old to retire’, a job fair for the elderly to be held at Nightingales Jobs+, near Vani Vilas Hospital, on July 21.

As many as 156 of these job aspirants are looking for employment in administrative work.

Ninety-four aspirants want clerical jobs and 92 aim for technical (engineering) avenues of employment. As many as 56 job seekers want to work in sales and 52 as office assistants/supervisors. Forty-six elders want jobs in accounts-related fields and 41 can work as computer/data entry operators. Forty aspirants seek jobs in the teaching field. Twenty-five candidates have been professionals. The rest of them want jobs in insurance, telecalling, field work, social work, driving, and defence.

The job fair is being organised by Nightingales Medical Trust. According to Dr Radha S Murthy, Managing Trustee, these elders are financially insecure as they neither receive pension nor have any regular income.

They, however, are physically fit and can work for nominal salaries.  The Trust will provide them basic training in computers and soft skills, free of cost, so that they can meet the requirements of the present-day job market. Employers will be provided a stall free of cost so that they can interview the aspirants. For registration, call 080-65608888.
