TP members vent ire against lack of cleanliness in town

The meet resolves to provide basic amenities to residents

The Somwarpet Town Panchayat members alleged the Panchayat of not maintaining cleanliness in the town.

In the general body meeting that was presided over by TP President N S Murthy on Wednesday, the members raised their voice against the lack of cleanliness in the town.

The members complained that several street lights in the town are in a damaged state and the town is in darkness. The contractors who have received tenders are not maintaining the street lights up to the mark, they said. Responding to the issue, TP President asked the contractors to repair the streetlights within 10 days, failing which he warned of taking stringent action. 

“The Town Panchayat has constructed the commercial complex in the town spending crores of rupees for the development of the town. But the complex is not bringing required amount of revenue to the Panchayat,” said TP member Fayaz Khan. Responding to the complaint, TP Chief Officer J Ramachandrappa explained the shortage of staff problem faced by the TP. Only three staff are working in the TP as against the requirement of 27 staff. When the main posts like revenue inspector, FDC, SDC, bill collector are vacant, how is it possible to collect the revenue, he asked. TP Vice president Nalini Ganesh insisted the Panchayat staff to go for tax recovery in the afternoon. 

One of the members Ramesh said that he is aware of the misappropriation that has taken place by the old staff in connection to tax collection and rent of commercial complexes. “I will expose the details within a few days,” he said. TP President N S Murthy assured of taking action against the culprits if the documents related to the scam is revealed. He also said that though the Panchayat has provided all facilities to the police for traffic management in the town, they are not utilising it properly. The members took a resolution to submit a complain about the matter to the higher authorities. 

Speaking about illegal collection of fee from the vehicles in the private bus stand, the President said that strict action will be taken if the issue is brought to his notice. The meeting also passed a resolution to construct welcome archs in different directions of the town in five km radius. It was also decided to provide basic facilities to the residents of the lay out for siteless people. It was decided to select a site for developing a swimming pool in the town.
