Panic cost us the game, admits Tendulkar

Chasing 146, the Mumbai side needed just four runs off the last over sent down by Munaf Patel. In the end, they managed just one while their last three batsmen ran themselves out.

“I just felt that there was a bit of panic in the end and that cost us the game,” a grim Tendulkar said.

Mumbai on Thursday opened with Dwayne Bravo and Yogesh Takawale, while Ajinkya Rahane came at one down. Sanath Jayasuriya flopped at number four while Tendulkar came as low as number five.

Even though the reshuffling proved futile, Tendulkar stood by the decision.

“We always try out something or the other. When it clicks, it’s called good...We fell just two runs short with the same batsmen,” Tendulkar said.

His opposite number Shane Warne, adjudged man of the match for his three-wicket haul, said he was proud of his team-mates.

“I’ve got not much hair left. More such matches and I would lose more,” he quipped.

“I am proud of the bunch and they showed their spirit today. More than a win or loss, we wanted to leave the field with a smile on the face,” he added.

Admitting he was quite nervous when Tendulkar was going strong, Warne said, “When the Little Master was whacking it all around, I got a little edgy. It was great to get his wicket.

“I’m happy with the result. It was a crucial match for both the sides and we knew what it takes to win such close matches,” Warne added.
