Contractor held for murder

The Jalahalli police arrested a labour contractor on the charge of murdering his friend and seized a plastic thread, a stone, a cellphone and a four-wheeler used in the crime.

Bijay Dolly, 28, from West Bengal had come to Bangalore a long ago and stayed at Whitefield. He allegedly murdered Ratan Bagchi, his friend for seven years. Ratan had come to Bangalore with his brother Sujith Bagchi from West Bengal and worked as a labour contractor at an apartment under-construction in Hennur.

Police said Bijay incurred losses in his business. He bought a four-wheeler on loan and rented it out to a private travels in Whitefield. When he sought financial help from Ratan, the latter allegedly demanded sexual favours fromBijay’s wife in return for the help. Fearing that Ratan would ‘harm’ his wife, Bijay decided to eliminate Ratan, the police said.

Bijay took Ratan in his vehicle on June 26 towards HMT High School and offered him liquor.

When Ratan was in an inebriated condition, Bijay strangled him with a plastic wire and smashed his head with a stone.

Later, Bijay collected Ratan’s cellphone and money, threw the body in a drain and absconded, the police added.

A few residents noticed the body in the drain across railway track near HMT High School.

The school security guard Shanthagowda lodged a complaint. Sujith identified the body based on the clothes at M S Ramaiah Hospital mortuary on July 3.

The post mortem report revealed that the death occurred due to injuries on the neck.
Sujith in his complaint stated that Bijay took his brother in his vehicle. Based on his complaint, the police arrested Bijay at Whitefield.
