Two persons, including a 16-year-old, were held for killing a youth at Mangolpuri in outer Delhi, police said. The victim was shot mistakenly as the attackers had come to kill his friend, who was in a relationship with the juvenile’s sister.

Manoj, 22 and the boy were apprehended for the murder of Tinku on Thursday, said deputy commissioner of police (outer) B S Jaiswal.

Police said on Tuesday, they received a call at the police control room from Sanjay Gandhi Memorial Hospital that a youth was brought dead with a bullet injury.

The victim was identified as Tinku of J block in Mangolpuri. Pradeep of the same locality told police that he along with Tinku were going from S block to J block on foot.

At 4 pm a youth came on a motorcycle from Y block and opened fired at them.

He escaped but Tinku fell down on the other side after receiving bullet injuries. Pradeep added that he also sustained burns on his right arm.

Police found that Pradeep was disliked by the 16-year-old boy as he was having a relation with his sister.

The girl alerted Pradeep that her brother and Manoj were making a plan to harm him. But Pradeep ignored the advice, said a police officer. Police laid a trap and arrested Manoj in Sultanpuri on Friday.

During interrogation, he revealed that the juvenile is his brother’s brother-in-law.

Pradeep was in love with the juvenile’s sister and they two were angry with him.

They had warned Pradeep several times but he paid no heed. So they hatched a plan to eliminate him. Manoj bought a country-made pistol from Baghpat in Uttar Pradesh.

Manoj shot at Pradeep in front of a blind school at X block in Mangolpuri. But unfortunately the bullet hit Tinku and he died, said Jaiswal.
