Entrepreneur N G Mohan was unanimously elected as the District Chief Commissioner for Bharath Scouts and Guides, at the election held for the post at Bharath Scouts and Guides Bhavan in Mangalore on Sunday.

He took charge from the outgoing DCC I A Kairanna, for a period of two years.

Addressing the office-bearers of the district council following the election, N G Mohan assured that he would do his best to fulfill the agenda of the district Scouts and Guides during his term and realise some of the pending programmes planned by his predecessor.

Speaking on the occasion, Scouts and Guides Regional Co-ordinator S K Prabha stressed on the need for the involvement of the district unit and council for the state programmes. “On be half of the government, I request you all to compulsorily attend the state-level programmes, rather than sending sub-ordinates,” she said.

One of the office-bearers of the council flayed the government for the inordinate delay in sending the gazette notifications related to Scouts and Guides to the members.

He also demanded to increase the honorarium given to Scouts and Guides institutions from present Rs 75 to Rs 5,000. A representative from Sullia institute said that less involvement of students and teachers from the government schools in Scouts and Guides was an issue of concern.

A budget of Rs 24 lakh for carrying out Scouts and Guides activities for the year 2012-13  was approved at the general body meeting.
