Leader of Opposition in the Legislative Assembly Siddaramaiah slammed agriculture minister Umesh V Katti for his reckless remarks on the prevailing drought situation in the state.

Speaking to mediapersons on his way to inaugurate Kanakabhavan in Holenarsipur on Sunday. Siddaramaiah lashed out at the minister, who has allegedly said “So what if it is drought... Aren’t people getting married.”

“More than half the state is reeling under drought. People are unable to get drinking water and fodder for cattle. At such a time, the agriculture minister is making such irresponsible statements,” Siddaramaiah said.

Siddaramaiah said, even large and medium scale industries minister Murugesh Nirani has made similar irresponsible statements. “The BJP government has failed to understand the problems of the people. People’s woes won’t end just because Jagadish Shettar has been made the chief minister,” he said.

Alleging that crores of rupees have been misused during Shettar’s reign as rural development and panchayat raj minister, Siddaramaiah asked how the chief minister would provide good governance now.
