Nowadays, channels have been showing numerous advertisements featuring products for treating acne. One of the adverts even show a girl hiding herself in a room from her friend so that no one can see her pimples.

Skin is one of most sensitive parts in a human body. We know that eating a high fat, greasy diet is not good for your health or for your skin, but, eating habits are not the sole cause of your acne.

According to dermatologists, for good health skin, it is advisable to eat a healthy
balanced diet and drink lots of water. “One should avoid junk food and eat more green vegetables and fresh fruits. Also papaya is also very good for the skin,” says Indu Tolani, dermatologist in B L Kapur Memorial Hospital.

Other factors contributing to acne are the greasy foods, especially those eaten with the fingers – such as pizza or French fries, be careful not to touch your face with your greasy fingers. In fact, greasy fingers on your face may be more responsible for breakouts than eating greasy food.

Acne can be of various types such as hormonal and those appearing on teenagers faces. “Youngsters should get their profile check-up and carry the tests prescribed by the doctors. Also mineral and water based make-up should be used and removed properly before going to bed,” adds, Indu. She also suggested that people should not lose their skin moisture and use an alcohol free toner.

Another important factor is that popping the pimples does not necessarily make them go away faster. In fact, scratching pimples can damage the skin. These actions can push the bacteria in the pimple further into the pore causing infections and possibly even scarring. So, popping pimples can make acne worse. The best advice is not to get impatient with your skin.

Washing your face at least twice daily is one thing that can help improve acne. Doctors or dermatologists can suggest an over-the-counter cleaning product or prescribe a prescription cleanser if necessary. Cleaning your face helps to wash away excess oil, dirt, old skin cells and bacteria. Some experts also suggest exfoliating the acne prone skin regularly. This is because dead skin cells left on the face can block the pores, causing pimples.

People should also take care of their acne when planning skin care regimen.  So, when weighing the myths about acne skin care, remember, keep it clean.
